Meet Honda and Jeffrey — Two New Recruits Join the Mission
Every service dog that gets paired with a veteran begins somewhere. It begins with a puppy, a decision, and an organization willing to invest 18 months of dedicated training into a dog that cannot yet do anything. This is where Honda and Jeffrey begin.
Day One · July 2026
This photo was taken the day Honda and Jeffrey were picked up. Two puppies, wide eyes, the backseat of a car. They do not know yet what they are being brought into. But Veterans Moving Forward does. And so do we.
Training a service dog from this point — from puppy to placement — takes between 18 and 24 months and costs up to $25,000. It requires professional trainers, medical care, socialization in hundreds of different environments, and an extraordinary amount of patience. It is not a small undertaking. Which is exactly why the contributions made possible by every Soléa & Co order matter.

Rest Is Part of the Training
Service dog training is demanding — physically and mentally. VMF's trainers know that rest and recovery are as important as the training itself. A tired, overheated dog cannot learn effectively. And a dog that associates training with discomfort will not perform reliably later.
This is what VMF looks like behind the scenes — careful, attentive, and invested in every stage of a dog's development. Not just the training moments, but the recovery between them.

The Journey Ahead
Right now Honda and Jeffrey are puppies. They are curious, energetic, and completely unaware of the veteran waiting for them on the other side of 18 months of training.
That veteran does not know them yet either. But somewhere, a veteran with PTSD is waiting for the kind of support that changes everything. The kind of support that only a professionally trained service dog can provide.
This is the beginning of that story.
The Full Journey
From Puppy to Placement — What It Takes
Puppy Selection
VMF carefully selects puppies with the temperament, intelligence, and trainability required for service work. Not every dog can do this. Honda and Jeffrey were chosen because they can.
Socialization (Months 1–6)
Exposure to every environment a veteran might enter. Other animals, public transport, crowds, loud sounds, medical settings. The goal is a dog that cannot be rattled.
Task Training (Months 6–18)
Learning the specific tasks that support veterans with PTSD, TBI, and mobility challenges. Interrupting nightmares. Grounding during anxiety. Mobility assistance. Each task is trained to a professional standard.
Veteran Matching & Placement
VMF matches each dog to a veteran based on personality, lifestyle, and specific needs. Then they train together — building the bond that makes everything work. At no cost to the veteran.
How contributions make this possible.
Veterans Moving Forward is a verified 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Every dog they bring into their program — every puppy like Honda and Jeffrey — requires funding.
